The Flagship Chip

The news was leaked a few months back, preparing us all for the emergence of a chip from Qualcomm that would revolutionize smart devices. The news was bold and touted how this particular chip would potentially cause problems for phone makers. The chip was rumored to be designed with extra cores or increased clock speed. This left many wondering where the heat would go and how phone makers would rise above the problem.

The Cooling Configuration

Qualcomm has had issues in the past keeping chips cool. As a result, sustained performance fell flat. Thus, phone makers would have to make other allowances in order to adapt the core configuration to have a better operating standard. More so, this super-fast chip might end up being used for tablets only.

Is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Super-fast?

Apparently, for those who have seen the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in action, it’s much more docile than anticipated. According to renowned leaker Ice Universe, “The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 fails to crack the proverbial Genshin Impact code. It seems the AP is, at best, a marginal upgrade over its predecessor. Not particularly surprising, given its minor node shift (TSMC N4 to N4P). Either way, the performance uplift is shaping up to be remarkably lower than the 50% figure estimated by an earlier rumour.”

There is also an argument that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has some hefty competitors if it wants to reign supreme. For instance, Samsung’s Exynos 2400 and Apple’s A17 Bionic. Both chips currently tower over the Google Tensor Chip 3, which is fitted with the same outdated modem used in Tensor 2 that was filled with all sorts of bugs. Qualcomm answered the rumors:

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 isn’t out, but let’s leak the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for the Galaxy processor that could be fabricated using Samsung Foundry’s 3nm GAP process.
