INTEGRATED CIRCUITS (ICS) ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS

An integrated circuit is made of distinct parts to perform the same function as a large circuit. Made of transistors, resistors, and capacitors built on a single semiconductor chip or wafter. Also known as a microchip or microelectronic circuit, they are generally microscopic in size. Invented by William B. Shockley in 1974, you can find them in just about every electronic device made today. For instance, video games, thermostats, televisions and automobiles. While integrated circuits may have many functions, the most popular ICs are analog and digital and can perform a plethora of functions per second on data. However, application specific integrated circuits can be fabricated to perform one function in both digital and analog.
