Circuit protection can be found in devices that are used to protect electrical circuits from damage. They are used in every electronic device or system that has the potential to succumb to overcurrent damage. Basically, circuit protection is provided by an electrical device used to prevent an unnecessary amount of current. You can find circuit protection in lighting, appliances, power supplies, power tools, transformers and more. The function of a circuit protection device is to save other components of the electrical circuit from being damaged. Circuit protection devices can be semiconductors or non-semiconductors. Examples include fuses, electromechanical circuit breakers and solid state power switches.
