XD3914 – LED Dot/Bar Display Driver – Xinluda
The Xinluda XD3914 is a monolithic LED dot/bar display driver in a DIP-18 package that senses analog voltage and drives 10 LEDs with a linear, programmable, current-regulated output. An LM3914-type level-meter driver, user-selectable between bar and dot display modes.
The Xinluda XD3914 is a monolithic integrated circuit that senses analog voltage levels and drives 10 LEDs to provide a linear analog display. A single pin switches the display between a moving-dot mode and a bar-graph mode, making it a flexible, drop-in LM3914-type level-meter driver. Because the drive current to each LED is regulated and individually programmable, the design eliminates per-LED ballast resistors and allows the entire system to operate from a supply of less than 3V.
The device contains its own adjustable reference and an accurate 10-step voltage divider. A low-bias-current input buffer accepts signals down to ground (V-) and withstands inputs up to plus or minus 30V without damage or false outputs. The buffer drives 10 individual comparators referenced to the precision divider, holding indication non-linearity to typically half a percent even over a wide temperature range. Multiple XD3914 devices can be chained to build displays of 20 to over 100 segments.
Key Features
- Senses analog voltage and drives 10 LEDs in a linear analog display
- Bar or dot display mode externally selectable by the user (pin 9)
- Output current programmable from 2 mA to 30 mA, eliminating external LED resistors
- LED driver outputs are current-regulated, open-collector
- Internal adjustable voltage reference from 1.2V to 12V
- Internal 10-step divider is floating and can be referenced to a wide range of voltages
- Inputs withstand plus or minus 30V without damage or false outputs; inputs operate down to ground
- No multiplex switching or interaction between outputs
- Outputs can interface with TTL or CMOS logic
- Expandable to displays of 100 steps
- Operates from a single supply of 3V to 20V DC (functions below 3V)
- Operating temperature range -40°C to +85°C; maximum junction temperature 100°C; DIP thermal resistance 55°C/W
Applications
- Analog bar-graph and dot-mode level meters
- Battery-charge and fuel-gauge indicators
- Audio VU / signal-strength displays
- Visual alarm and threshold indicators
- Expanded-scale and zero-center meters (two devices)
- Sequencers, programmers, and staging controllers using the individual current outputs
