Onboard fail-safe circuitry guarantees a defined logic-high receiver output when the inputs are open or shorted, improving reliability in noisy field-wiring environments.

With a receiver input impedance of 1/8 unit load, the XL485-SS allows up to 256 transceivers to share a single bus, supporting large multidrop networks. Separate driver-enable (DE) and receiver-enable (RE) pins place the driver and receiver outputs into a high-impedance tri-state when disabled, simplifying bus arbitration. The device is rated for ±15kV Human Body Model (HBM) ESD on the A/B bus pins and operates across the full -40°C to +85°C industrial temperature range.
