What’s Happening Now:
- The global automobile sector would lose $210 billion in revenue in 2021 due to a semiconductor chip scarcity
- The current prediction is roughly double the $110 billion expected in May
- Expectations of 7.7 million units of production to be lost in 2021, up from 3.9 million in its previous projection in May
The worldwide semiconductor chip scarcity is now predicted to cost the global automobile industry $210 billion in revenue in 2021.
This is nearly twice as large as the previous estimate of $110 billion in May. When automakers began cutting output at factories due to the components shortage, the New York-based business issued an initial prediction of $60.6 billion in late January.
Global automakers would produce 7.7 million fewer vehicles this year as a result of the chip problem. That’s nearly double the prior expert estimate of 3.9 million. Despite continued attempts to strengthen the supply chain, semiconductor availability has deteriorated as automakers deplete their stocks and other businesses run out of spare parts.
The second quarter of this year is still the worst of chip shortage thus far in terms of lost vehicles. Due to unforeseen events since May, such as the development of the delta variant and COVID outbreaks in Malaysia and other Southeast Asian nations, the car sector globally has not rebounded as swiftly as we believed when we did our forecast back in May.
The component shortage is set to last at least until the second quarter of next year. It will take a little longer for car inventory levels to improve considerably, due to supply concerns, such as labor, transportation, and other materials.
